The new Vocab Express, coming this September!

We’re excited to announce that come September, we will be offering an all-new version of Vocab Express to schools throughout the UK!

We’ve spent the last few months listening carefully to teachers’ feedback and new ideas, as we take pride in ensuring Vocab Express does exactly what you need it to. The Vocab Express team has being working hard, behind the scenes here in the office to produce Vocab Express 2. The revamped service and its new look will bring a whole new branch of flexible learning opportunities. What’s more, as a subscription site, the new version will become automatically available to existing subscribers at no additional cost!

Here’s a quick summary of the new features you can expect to see:

Flexible answer interpreting
You may hear from students how frustrating it currently is when they enter a correct translation but it is marked as wrong because the answer is not listed. We recognise this and are introducing a new, more flexible answer interpreter which will enable synonyms to be accepted as correct to remove this issue.

New dictation mode
We’ve worked hard to build up our range of audio files to more than 50,000! Our new dictation mode of vocabulary acquisition takes advantage of these, enabling students to listen to a term in the target language and then write it down in the target language, strengthening their immersion in the language.

Assignment modules
For many teachers, Vocab Express is a valuable homework tool. Now, a new method of vocabulary revision and a new assignment module (already available in a beta version) will provide an extra level of insight into how students are performing outside of the classroom, being able to set and monitor student homework easily. Teachers can view a breakdown of key information including the percentage of work completed, total time taken, total number of questions answered and total number of incorrect answers.

Inter and intra school championships
The Vocab Express annual Language Championships are increasingly popular and now schools will be able to run their own inter- and intra-school championships! It will be possible to divide student participants into groups as required (such as by class, year group or house) and challenge them to test their own vocabulary whenever and however many times in the academic year is most convenient to you.

Mobile app
With so many students having access to mobile phones and with the rise of ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) schemes in many schools, we are pleased to announce that we have developed a Vocab Express mobile app for Android devices. This will allow students to log on, learn and test their vocabulary on-the-go, at a time and place convenient to them, whether on the school bus, in the back garden or (optimistically) on holiday! All results will link back to their real-time school scoreboards to keep these aligned and consistent with work completed in school.

That’s just a taste of what the new Vocab Express will have in store for you when the new school year begins. What do you think of the changes? Let us know!
