Last week we launched the League of Champions as we’re on the hunt for the world’s best young linguists. Sponsored by Oxford University Press, the week-long language league for secondary schools worldwide will take place from Thursday 25 September to Wednesday 1 October 2014.
If your school is taking part, then you can challenge others in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Mandarin, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, and for the first time, Portuguese. Don’t be alarmed, you don’t need to know all of them, just one is enough to compete!
Students who subscribe to Vocab Express through a school account can log on to test their knowledge of language vocab using our scoreboard system to gain points for not only their individual championship position, but also their school’s league table position. You can also compete across the globe to be crowned the ultimate champion; real-time leader boards will track the action as it happens, meaning you can keep an eye on your own progress, and your opponents.
Everyone that takes part is recognised through a tiered system of awards and certificates that will distinguish the achievement of schools and individuals at an overall level, and also separately for each of the 13 languages. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top placed students.
Entry to the championship is free and open to all schools currently subscribing to Vocab Express. If your school does not currently subscribe, don’t fear, as there are a further 100 free school places available, allowing up to 150 students from each school to compete. The places are available on a first come, first served basis though, so be quick.
Time to put your skills to the test and be in with a chance of winning some cash for your linguistic flare!
